Travel 200 years back in time and experience history on the Great Plains at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park!
Ongoing demonstrations featuring military and civilian life of the 1820s will occur throughout the park. Reenactors portray fur traders, coopers, blacksmiths, carpenters, tinsmiths, weavers and other period trades. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the reenactors.
Schedule
10 a.m. – The Troop: roll call, inspection, raise colors and morning gun at the flagpole
10:15 a.m. – Prepare for Inspection (Saturday only at the flagpole)
10:30 a.m. – Church service (Sunday only in the north barrack school room)
11 a.m. – Speaker Tom Bryan presents, “The History of Fort Atkinson’s Cow Pen Flag”; Kevin Arnold presents, “Regimental Flags”
Noon – Assembly; noon gun at the flagpole on parade ground)
12:05 p.m. – Dinner call: peas upon a trencher
12:05 p.m. – Ron Westlake presents, “Alcohol in the 1820s” at the southeast barrack
12:15 p.m. – Pressing apples for cider (Saturday only under the shade trees on parade ground)
1:30 p.m. – Vignette on the 1825 “Treaty of Friendship” by Bob Baker at the northwest barrack
2 p.m. – Harvesting 1820s style (near Sutler Store)
3 p.m. – Visit all buildings outside of the north gate for a complete history of the happenings of the 1820s.
4 p.m. – The Retreat: roll call, inspection and evening gun at the flagpole
Guns will be fired at 10 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. (at least).

-Children 3-12: $1
-2 and under: Free
A valid Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required for all vehicles to enter the park and can be purchased at the site.
