Travel 200 years back in time and experience history on the Great Plains at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park!
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 2 and Aug. 3, ongoing demonstrations featuring military and civilian life of the 1820s will occur throughout the park. Reenactors portray fur traders, coopers, blacksmiths, carpenters, tinsmiths, weavers and other period trades. Visitors are encouraged to interact with the reenactors.
Schedule
10 a.m. – Troop call
10:30 a.m. (Sunday only) – Church call at the School Room in the north barrack
10:30 a.m. – Demonstration of sickness (ongoing and interactive; information at the west gate)
11 a.m. (Sunday only) – “Demonstration of Native Drumming” at the Council House area
Noon – Assembly; noon gun (flag pole)
12:30 p.m. – Oven-baked cobbler making (ongoing at the bake oven)
1 p.m. – Bill Hayes of Humanities Nebraska presents, “Private Shannon of Lewis and Clark” at the Visitor Center
2 p.m. – Hewing demonstration at the large oak tree inside the fort (ongoing)
2:30 p.m. – Ongoing demonstrations in the trapper cabin and Council House including: laundresses, blacksmith, tinsmith, spinning/weaving, bake oven, etc.
3:30 p.m. – Whiskey rations at the flag pole
4 p.m. – The Retreat: roll call, inspection, evening gun; flag is lowered, call in sentries and cease all challenging.

- Children 3-12: $1
- 2 and under: Free
A valid Nebraska Park Entry Permit is required for all vehicles to enter the park and can be purchased at the site.
