Learn about the many different signs animals leave behind and what they can teach us.About this EventThis 5 day intensive wildlife tracking course in Scotland is ideal for those who already have some tracking experience and would like to take it further (although you are still welcome and will gain a lot if you are new to tracking). Tracking develops our ability to observe subtle clues and understand wildlife behaviour and ecology. We will look in detail at more advanced tracks and signs left by a range of birds, mammals, amphibians and invertebrates in variety of fantastic habitats, from the wild River Findhorn, estuary and coast, to woodland, farmland and more!You will build confidence in recognising and interpreting more difficult to identify and obscure tracks and signs in a range of substrates. We will explore how tracking can enhance our understanding of the wider ecosystem by drawing upon many different aspects of natural history.During the course we will cover:Advanced track identificationSign recognition – (including feeding sign, droppings etc)Gait interpretation and reading animal behaviourEcology through the lens of trackingObservation, deduction and sensory awareness exercisesTrack trapsWildlife observationIdentifying and analysing skulls, bones and feathersUnderstanding foot morphologyTrailingInterpreting bird calls and behaviour as an aid to trackingMapping and journalingNote that this course is self-catering and accommodation isn't provided. However we can give recommendations for places to stay nearby.including affordable camping and van parking on site.
