The Cincinnati Black Theatre Company (CBTC) proudly continues its longstanding tradition with the musical and worship celebration of Black Nativity, running Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, December 13 at 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. at Word of Deliverance Ministries for the World, Inc. in Forest Park, OH.
Black Nativity is an adaptation of the Nativity story originally written by Langston Hughes.
CBTC has been producing Black Nativity since 2002, now celebrating its 23rd year. The production was designed for performers to bring their own energy and flair, incorporating music and dance styles of their choice. Every year, the company breathes fresh life into this Christmas classic, adding new songs, breathtaking choreography, and creative storytelling elements that captivate audiences of all ages.
This year’s theme, “Jesus: The Way, The Truth, The Life,” centers on God’s promise and the ultimate fulfillment of that promise through the birth of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
This year's Black Nativity is directed for the first time by Tara Hammonds, whose artistic vision continues CBTC’s legacy of celebrating community, faith, and Black artistry. A longtime member of the Black Nativity team, Hammonds, draws on years of experience performing and collaborating on the show to guide this year’s production. The performance will feature local worship teams and ministry groups from across Cincinnati.
