I'm Tony and I'm doing the SoCal Six-Pack of Peaks challenge this summer and I'm inviting anyone up for a challenge to join me. We're tackling two peaks per month over June, July and August starting with the shortest elevation gain and ending with the highest.San Bernardino PeakOpen to avid hikers and above. Full disclosure: while you don't need to be an expert hiker, this is not a beginner-friendly hike.This is the sixth peak in the challenge. Expect 5,840 feet of elevation gain over 17.3 miles with a summit at 11,503 feet.*IMPORTANT NOTE Group sizes are limited to 12. Others can put in for a group permit but a person can only have one group permit under their name.We'll start from the trailhead. The address is for a fire station as there isn't an exact address for the trailhead and you have to follow some signs to navigate to the parking lot and trailhead. Thankfully, you can find more parking directions with photos here: San Bernardino Peak HikeThis is a very long and strenuous hike with over a mile in elevation gain and over 17 miles of hiking. Be prepared for a long day out.You will need to purchase a parking pass such as an Adventure Pass.Meetup time is 5:30. According to SoCal Hiker, the lot officially opens at 6am and they arrived at 5:35 with only a few spots remaining in the upper lot. We'll start hiking by 6am.PreparationPack water, snacks, and sunscreen as needed.The summer time in the San Gabriel mountains is often pretty warm and we'll be out for several hours so plan and pack accordingly.You might consider bringing headache Medic*tion if the altitude gives you a headache.Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are necessary.
