Après plus de vingt ans de carrière, Ledisi a remporté en mars 2021 son tout premier Grammy Award pour la meilleure performance R&B traditionnelle avec sa chanson à succès Anything For You. Dans une année marquée par la pandémie durant laquelle elle a lancé son propre label et publié l’album The Wildcard.
Passionnée dès l’enfance par les grandes figures de la soul, Ledisi voue une admiration profonde à Nina Simone. Ce lien fort l’a menée à co-produire en décembre 2020 une émission spéciale pour PBS, Ledisi chante Nina Simone, avant de concrétiser son rêve avec l’album Ledisi Sings Nina. Ce projet ambitieux, acclamé par la critique, rassemble le Metropole Orkest dirigé par Jules Buckley, le New Orleans Jazz Orchestra d’Adonis Rose, ainsi que les voix puissantes de Lizz Wright, Lisa Fischer et Alice Smith.
Ce projet lui a valu sa 14e nomination aux Grammy Awards, cette fois dans la catégorie Meilleur album pop traditionnel. En tout, Ledisi cumule 14 nominations aux Grammy, dont une pour le meilleur nouvel artiste, 3 Soul Train Music Awards, 19 nominations aux NAACP Image Awards, un NAACP Theatre Award, ainsi que deux nominations aux LA Alliance Ovation Awards, saluant son talent aussi bien vocal que théâtral.
Originaire de La Nouvelle-Orléans et élevée à Oakland, Ledisi est une voix incontournable de sa génération.
