Blue Mountain School is offering another year of mindful parenting support, and time for reflection and connection through our Mindful Families Series with Sarah and Jagadisha.
The Mindful Families Series is a structured support program designed to help parents cultivate greater awareness, intentionality, and presence in their parenting journey.
Led by facilitators Sarah and Jagadisha at Blue Mountain School, this series creates a dedicated space for parents to pause, reflect, and connect with both themselves and other families navigating similar experiences.
What the Series Offers:
Guided Learning and Discussion
This year The Mindful Families Series will be using the book, Everyday Blessings: The Inner Work of Mindful Parenting by Jon and Myla Kabat-Zinn as a foundation, where participants explore core mindfulness principles applied specifically to parenting. The book emphasizes that mindful parenting is less about perfect techniques and more about the inner work of becoming more conscious, compassionate, and present with our children and ourselves.
Reflective Practice
The series provides time for parents to step back from the daily rush and engage in meaningful self-reflection. Participants examine their own reactions, patterns, triggers, and values in parenting, recognizing that our own emotional regulation and self-awareness directly impact our children.
Community Connection
Parents meet with others facing similar challenges and joys, creating a supportive community where they can share experiences without judgment. This connection helps reduce the isolation many parents feel and builds a network of mutual understanding.
Practical Mindfulness Tools
While rooted in contemplative practice, the series offers practical approaches parents can integrate into everyday moments—from managing challenging behaviors mindfully to creating presence during routine activities like bedtime or meals.
Stress Reduction and Self-Care
Recognizing that parenting can be overwhelming, the series helps parents develop tools for managing stress, responding rather than reacting to difficult situations, and honoring their own needs alongside their children's.
Ultimately, the Mindful Families Series recognizes that raising children is one of life's most profound practices of awareness, and that by doing our own inner work, we create more peaceful, authentic, and loving family relationships.
Getting the Book and Joining In
Everyone is welcome to participate, and purchasing or reading the book in advance is not required. Sarah and Jagadisha will provide summaries at each session so all participants can engage fully in the discussions. The school will also work to have copies on site for families who need them.
Those interested in obtaining their own copy can visit the Book House, in downtown Floyd, or order online, where both print and ebook versions are available.
Mark your calendars and plan to join us each month from 4-5:30 pm.
