December 16 is Bambinelli Sunday – The blessing of baby Jesus figurines.
Bambinelli Sunday is a beautiful tradition that was started by Pope St. John Paul II. Bambinelli is Italian, the plural of bambinello which means “little baby [boy].” Bambinelli Sunday is celebrated on Gaudete Sunday, the third Sunday of Advent. Children observe this annual tradition by bringing the baby Jesus figure from their family nativity scene to Mass for a special blessing. Children then take their baby Jesus figurines back home to be placed under their Christmas tree, waiting for Christmas Eve when the Bambinelli can be placed in the manger to mark the birth of Jesus. Please join us in this special tradition!
All households are invited to bring their Baby Jesus figurines from their manger scenes to be blessed at all Masses on December 15/16.
