Nel loro secondo album in duo per la ECM, il pianista rumeno Lucian Ban e il violista statunitense Mat Maneri trovano nuova ispirazione seguendo le tracce di Béla Bartók, rivisitando la musica popolare che ha stimolato l’immaginazione del grande compositore ungherese che, all’inizio del ** secolo, raccolse e trascrisse numerosi brani provenienti dalla Transilvania. 

Per il duo queste canzoni sono diventate “trampolini di lancio e fonti di materiale melodico” per arrangiamenti “che catturano lo spirito dell’originale ma ci permettono di improvvisare e di portare il nostro mondo. Queste canzoni popolari ci insegnano molte cose”. Registrate dal vivo nell’ottobre del 2022 nell’ambito del progetto Retracing Bartók a Timișoara, queste esecuzioni testimoniano anche l’incredibile sintonia che Lucian Ban e Mat Maneri hanno raggiunto nella loro lunga collaborazione musicale particolarmente intensa dal vivo.
