Annual Fernie Christmas Bird Count.
Birders are welcome to join in the field count just for the morning, afternoon, or all day!
You can team up with fellow birders and explore an area of town or head out into the surrounding countryside. You can also help us out by counting the birds at your feeder that day.
Not only will you get the chance to spot some of our favourite feathered friends, but you’ll also be helping collect important data for the @audubonsociety and Bird Studies Canada.

For anyone who would like to meet up in the morning, we will be at Starbucks at 9:00am and we'll split up birding areas to cover across town and go over any questions. If anyone wants to head straight to the birds in the morning, let Kate know in advance to assign an area.
Don’t forget to dress warm and bring your binoculars!

The Christmas Bird Count started in 1900 and is the longest running Citizen Science project in North America. The 'count week' for the Fernie Christmas Bird Count starts December 18 and runs to the 24th. Any bird species that we don't see on the official count day, Sunday December 21st, can still be included in our bird list if the species is observed within this week. - Feel free to send Kate any bird lists for the count week, and scope out any cool birds before Sunday!
