About the Instructor: This clinic is taught by Kurt Dolphay, a Whatcom County resident since 2011. Kurt is a father to two girls ages 6 and 10, both of whom also enjoy playing disc golf. Kurt is also a member of the Whatcom Disc Golf Club who played a critical role in the VanderYacht course redesign in 2024. This event is also made possible by the generous support of Far From Par Disc Golf, Whatcom County's only disc golf pro shop dedicated to the sport, and Dip's Discs in Oak Harbor.
From Kurt: "I started playing disc golf in December 2022 and quickly became hooked. This sport has given me a much-needed outlet and has helped me meet some of my best friends around WA and BC. My oldest daughter is my inspiration for these clinics. She is my main disc golf buddy, and we have travelled all over western Washington and British Columbia for tournaments for her. We are blessed with two active Women’s disc golf scenes down south and north of the border. However, the youth scene has been slow to grow here in Whatcom. So, one could say I’m doing these clinics for selfish reasons. Wanting to get more players for my kids to play with."
"My goal for this clinic is to introduce the sport and rules of disc golf to girls and boys. One thing I love about this sport is its low barrier to play. If there is a course nearby, then a player only needs one disc to play. This makes it extremely accessible especially compared to sports like Golf, football, baseball, swimming and ice-skating sports."
