Fayetteville has an opportunity to explore something small, practical, and genuinely useful: a glass-to-sand pilot right here in town.
On Thursday, December 4 at 6 PM, Bud’s Recycling Co-op will be at the Fayetteville Town Council meeting to talk about a simple 90-day pilot inside the Recycling Center building off of Gatewood. This would give residents a way to recycle glass bottles and jars locally — and turn them into traction sand and landscaping sand we can use right here in our community.
We’ve been recommended (not officially awarded yet) for a WV DEP REAP grant that could help fund a glass crusher. Other West Virginia towns like Shepherdstown and Hampshire County are already doing this and getting great results. Fayetteville has the chance to be next on that list.
At the meeting, we’ll cover:
• How the glass-to-sand process works
• What a pilot in one bay of the Recycling Center could look like
• Safety, dust control, cleanup, and insurance
• Costs (the Town would only cover electricity during operating hours)
• How Bud’s would run the pilot with trained volunteers
• How residents could bring their glass
• What the finished sand looks and feels like
This meeting is open to the public, and anyone is welcome to attend, listen, ask questions, and see if this seems like a good next step for Fayetteville.
