- **Event Description**: Join us for an afternoon of jazz and poetry! The centerpiece of this event is 5 poems from Gerry Sloan’s 1999 chapbook, Common Time, with music composed and performed by Al Gibson and Claudia Burson.

The event will also include original works by living poets and tributes to predecessors like Miller Williams, Frank Stanford, C. D. Wright and Maya Angelou. Each poet will choose a spontaneous accompaniment by either plucked bass or guitar. This event will create a platform for local voices and open our minds and ears to words and music in a new way.

Gerry Sloan is retired from the Music Department at the University of Arkansas where he started the Jazz Ensemble, the Latin Ensemble, and taught Jazz History for over thirty years.
