# Event Details - **Event Name**: Casa Gago - A Modernist Icon - Guided Open House (1h) - **Event Start and End Date**: Fri, 06 Nov, 2026 at 04:00 pm – Fri, 06 Nov, 2026 at 05:00 pm (+00:00) - **Event Description**: An exclusive open house in Faro's most iconic MGC building, guided by architect Victor Hugo Faustino.About this EventBuilt in 1955 for wealthy emigrant Alfredo Gago Rosa, Casa Gago is one of the most extraordinary modernist buildings in the Algarve and one of the least known outside Faro.Manuel Gomes da Costa designed it at the height of his powers, drawing on Latin American influences to create something that feels simultaneously international and deeply rooted in its place. Pilotis, flat roof, large windows, a protective second skin. The full vocabulary of tropical modernism, transposed to southern Portugal with remarkable confidence. What makes this open house exceptional is the access. Both apartments within Casa Gago will be open for the visit, including one flat that remains largely untouched, preserving its original 1950s features in extraordinary condition. Current residents will be on hand to share what it means to live inside a modernist landmark every day.Victor Hugo Faustino, architect and MGC specialist, will guide the visit — placing Casa Gago within the broader arc of Gomes da Costa's career and Faro's mid-century architectural transformation.A rare and intimate encounter with one of the city's most important buildings.Friday 6 November · 16h00 · Duration : 1 hour · 10€ · https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events3/banners/f1591520-ba3b-11f1-a9fb-b7875b1c57f7-rimg-w493-h740-dcb8d8f8-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events7/banners/f1877820-ba3b-11f1-a9fb-b7875b1c57f7-rimg-w493-h740-dc686858-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events2/banners/f19de650-ba3b-11f1-a9fb-b7875b1c57f7-rimg-w493-h740-dcb89878-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events8/banners/f1d4fbe0-ba3b-11f1-a9fb-b7875b1c57f7-rimg-w493-h740-dcd8e8e8-gmir.jpg https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events5/banners/f205f6f0-ba3b-11f1-a9fb-b7875b1c57f7-rimg-w493-h740-dc988888-gmir.jpg About The Modernist WeekendThe Modernist Weekend is an independent event organised by The Modernist Faro, rooted in a commitment to architectural knowledge and heritage conservation. All proceeds go directly towards the event and raising awareness of the Algarve's modernist heritage. The Modernist Faro — themodernist.ptPhotos credits : Aymeric Warmé-Janville - **Event URL**: https://allevents.in/faro/casa-gago-a-modernist-icon-guided-open-house-1h/100002001603153915 - **Event Categories**: art, fine-arts, nonprofit - **Interested Audience**: - total_interested_count: 0 - **Event Highlights**: - Duration: 1 hour - Location: R. They fell in love with Faro, a city in the Algarve, and decided to promote its Modernist architecture. In 2021, they opened The Modernist hotel in Faro (www.themodernist.pt). Everything in the hotel, from design to production, is proudly Portuguese and mostly sourced from the Algarve, just 100 kilometers away. This unique concept quickly became famous for Architecture Travel in Europe, getting featured in Forbes, Monocle, National Geographic, Elle Decor. They created a Modernist architecture tour book of Faro to teach people about the Algarve's architecture. Now, they're planning the second Modernist Weekend, a three-day event celebrating Modernist architecture through art, tours, open houses, and networking." } ] } ] ```
