About the event

Apple Grafting Workshop (in person)
Darroch Nurseries is delighted to host Phil Knott from Drumfearn Trees for an informative and practical session on grafting apple trees.

About this Event

Join us for a hands-on experience of grafting apple trees! This event is perfect for anyone who is interested in learning more about what is involved in growing apple trees.

We will cover the history and science behind grafting apples, followed by a practical workshop where you will learn a few grafting techniques and safe use of grafting knives. You will then get hands-on and graft your own apple trees! At the end of the session you will have three grafted apple trees to take home with you.

All materials and tools provided. You are welcome to bring your own varieties to graft, you will just need some lengths of last years growth.

Please wear warm outdoor clothes that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy! We will be working in an unheated polytunnel so bring enough layers suitable for the weather. Basic facilities (portaloo) are available on site.

A light lunch (vegetarian soup, bread, and cheese) with teas, coffees, and cake will be provided. Please note there is no public transportation available to the site, and a car will be needed. You can also arrange for a taxi from nearby train stations. We aren’t able to accept any dogs on site.

The event takes place at Darroch Nurseries just outside Linlithgow. Find out more about us here: www.darroch-nurseries.co.uk. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to growing native, local provenance trees in and for Scotland.

More about Phil Knott and Drumfearn Trees:

Drumfearn Trees is a small-scale, croft-based tree nursery, based in the Sleat Peninsula of Skye. They produce fruit and native trees that are outside grown on the west coast with no artificial chemicals or inputs. Trees are grown slowly, and come wind and salt tolerant, minimising risk of planting shock. Drumfearn Trees is owned and managed by Phil Knott.
