Bundle up and join us for a special Yuletide birding adventure at the farm! Explore our pastures, edges, and surrounding forest with birder Clifton Avery of Ventures Birding Tours, and discover the incredible variety of species that call WNC home through the winter.
Clifton will guide you through edge-habitat hotspots while sharing tips for spotting robins, cardinals, titmice, nuthatches, raptors, and more. Winter is an especially exciting time for bird behavior—keep an eye out for starling murmurations, active predator birds like red-shouldered and Cooper’s hawks, or even the occasional bald eagle.
Along the way, Farm Operations Director Virginia Hamilton will share how our Holistic Land Management practices support thriving bird habitats and work in harmony with the local ecosystem.
After the hike, warm up with a hearty biscuit brunch from butcher Brian’s kitchen—because birding works up an appetite! All class participants also receive 5% off in the Farm Store & Butchery with the Savory Student Discount.

About Clifton:
Clifton Avery is a wildlife biologist, professional birding guide, and WNC native with extensive field experience across North and South America. He currently works with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission focusing on species of greatest conservation need, including birds, flying squirrels, and Hellbender salamanders. When he’s not leading tours with Ventures Birding, he’s exploring the outdoors with his 7-year-old son, Banks.
