- **Event Description**: Join us for a spring morning on the farm with birder Clifton Avery of Ventures Birding Tours (@bigbaldbirder on IG) as we explore pasture edges and surrounding forest in search of Western North Carolina’s vibrant spring species.

Late May marks the tail end of migration and the height of breeding season. We’ll look for lingering passage migrants along with nesting birds in full song. Species we hope to observe include indigo bunting, blue grosbeak, black-throated green warbler, scarlet tanager, and northern parula — just a few of the many birds that thrive in our diverse edge habitat.

Along the way, you’ll learn how planned grazing and Holistic Land Management support local bird populations. Farm Director Virginia will share how our regenerative practices work in tandem with native grasses, wildflowers, and wildlife to create habitat that benefits both livestock and avian life.

We’ll be hiking uneven and sometimes steep terrain, so please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.

Midway through the morning, we’ll break for an included biscuit brunch* from Butcher Brian’s kitchen — because birding is hungry work. As part of the Savory Naturalist Series, attendees receive a 5% Savory Student Discount in the Farm Store & Butchery.

A portion of the proceeds from these classes supports our work as a Savory Hub and helps further the reach of regenerative agriculture in our region.
