LYRE BYRDLAND The Sydney based, 10-piece instrumental groove machine know as Lyre Byrdland has established itself as a powerhouse of party music since its inception in 2014. Born from a late night of banter and booze in a hip Melbourne bar, within a few years the group became a favourite on the Sydney music scene with an ever-growing fan base of fellow groovers who love to get down. Featuring a four-piece line-up with some of Sydney’s tastiest masters of brass and a tight-as-the-proverbial rhythm section, Lyre Byrdland has honed their sound with the aim of getting people onto the dancefloor. Drawing inspiration from the greats of the afro/funk genre such as Fela Kuti and The Daktaris as well as more contemporary powerhouses, Daft Punk and Snarky Puppy, Lyre Byrdland’s sound is like throwing on your favourite pair of jeans straight from the dry-cleaners - reassuringly familiar yet strikingly fresh. The band recorded their debut full length album Hotfoot in 2016 and last year released their new single Low Life. BLACKBIRD HUM A blend of roots reggae and dub, wound together with captivating hooks, solid grooves and striking harmonies, resulting the type of big‐band reggae that throws everything at you from horns to percussion to tripped‐out synths and delay‐drenched keys. As well as supporting Arrested Development (USA) the band have shared the stage with the likes of The Original Wailers (JAM), J Boog (US), Third World (JAM), Black Slate (UK), Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Collie Buddz (BER), Kingfisha, Six60 (NZ), King Tide, The Strides, and Bobby Alu. Combined with a run of festival performances that includes a 2019 spot on the prestigious Goa Sunsplash in India, as well as Caloundra Music Festival, Nimbin Mardi Grass and Nimbin Roots Festivals, back‐to‐back Peats Ridge Festivals, and FBi Radio's Reggae Carnival, their reputation for an impressive live show continues to grow. RATTLECAT Returning for the first time in nearly a decade. WA-born Josh Fergus landed on Sydney’s Northern Beaches in the early 2000s and quickly became one of the go-to players for groove-driven live music. A one-man show if needed but also frontman of reggae outfit The Flavor, he spent years playing to packed rooms and festivals on the northern beaches and beyond. After stepping back to focus on family, Josh has spent the past decade quietly writing and shaping his own material. Now, for the first time, he brings his original project Rattlecat out of retirement. We hope it's not the last, but definitely not one to miss.
