- **Event Description**: You might be surprised to know 5% of the world’s willows occur right here in Fairbanks. With over 350 willows worldwide Alaska hosts 40 species (that’s approximately 11%) and here in Fairbanks we have 20 of those species. Few places in the world attain this level of diversity!

Our full day excursion will include:

-Tanana River lowlands (behind the airport) getting an introduction to some of the largest riparian tree and shrub willow forms in the area (approximately 7 in this area). 
-Goldstream Valley (Petes Pond area) to examine several shrub and dwarf species (approximately 6 in this area). 
 -Murphy Dome to tour the sub alpine and arctic alpine willow habitats (approximately 7 in this area). 

In a day participants will gain a firsthand familiarity with several key characteristics necessary in identifying roughly 20 of our native willows and habitats.
