Originating in Southern California, Balboa is considered a dancer’s dance with its focus on a close connection between partners. Often danced to faster tempo swing music, expression is found in the footwork which provides its elegance and weightlessness.
New to Balboa and unsure about jumping into the full block? Purchase a drop in option on our Sum Up store to try week 1, if you’d like to continue with the block we can upgrade you to the full block price.
Doors open at 7.30pm with class starting promptly after. Our classes include 1.5 hours of teaching time followed by a practice session.
Our next block starts on Wednesday 25th February.
Teaching alongside Exeter’s own Balboa fanatic, Jackie, is Iacopo Longo! With a sharp analytical eye and a structured approach, Iacopo has a real knack for breaking down rhythm, movement and body awareness into clear, accessible concepts – perfect for dancers of all levels. With over ten years of experience teaching both dance and mathematics, he’s great at knowing when to push, when to support, and how to make even tricky concepts feel achievable. If he gets a little too excited mid-class, that’s just the Italian charm kicking in!
Block of 4 Classes – 6 hours of teaching: £45 (£41 Students).
Drop-in, for new students on first week of any new block, price £12.
