An Introduction to Project Management
This is a 1/2 day introduction workshop on how to lead, plan and manage a complex project.
Understanding stakeholders and the implications and relevance to a project and its success
Defining a project scope to ensure clarity of understanding of objectives and goals to define success
Creating a work breakdown
Creating a project plan and using it as the key tool to track progress and any issues that might arise
Managing project quality and why this is necessary
Managing communications between all stakeholders and understanding the different requirements for each stakeholder
Managing the risk
This master class / workshop is aimed at YINI students who will during this year, or at some stage in the future, be likely to be a key member of, or lead a complex project. The workshop will give you a starting guide to the key elements that need to be considered if a project is to be successful and how to plan and manage the whole process.
Deliverer - Paul Youngman
Paul Youngman is the Plymouth UTC Navy liaison Officer. Lt Cdr Paul G Youngman joined the Royal Navy in November 1975 as a Medical Assistant (MA) and completed commando training in March 1978. On completion of the All Arms Commando Course he was drafted immediately to 45 Commando Gp RM where he served in Northern Ireland and The Falklands War.
His career has been spent mostly with the Royal Marines and Land Forces, with some Royal Navy general service drafts in HMS RALEIGH and BRNC DARTMOUTH, a period of time was also spent at sea in HMS BEAGLE. Paul was commissioned from WO1 (MA) in February 2005 into the Engineer (Training Management) Branch and joined 42 Commando Royal Marines as the Unit Education Officer, deploying to Norway and on Operations in Afghanistan. On his return, and after a short period of time in the Human Resource Training Services Group, he was appointed to Navy Command Headquarters as the Pers Ops Operational Stress Management (OSM) Staff Officer. Whilst in this post Paul gained an MSc in Training Design from Portsmouth University to complement his BA(Hons) Degree in Education and Training.
Paul is in the post of Royal Navy Liaison Officer for Plymouth UTC where he will lead on the Naval Base Commander Devonport’s engagement with UTC Plymouth, arranging and facilitating activity within HMNB Devonport and RN training establishments to deliver the agreed engagement plan between UTC Plymouth and the Royal Navy.
Lt Cdr Youngman also supports Captain Engineering (Devonport) for Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) Outreach task and he has been actively involved in events for the 2018 Year of Engineering. Paul is also a PRINCE 2 Project Manager.
