A YULETIDE RAMBLE
Good Yule!
Topsham’s own Chris Hoban and Dartmoor actor Martin Reeve continue their cycle of narrative shows with the return of “A Yuletide Ramble”, a wintry feast of traditional carols, original songs, poetry & prose.
Bring your voices for a collection of well-known tunes, a selection of seasonal original songs, including “Hallows’ Eve”, “Stay Close To Me”, “The Star of The Sea” & “The Christmas Truce” - plus new material written especially for the event.
Chris is well-known locally as a songwriter, lyricist, composer & arranger, and has written regularly for (and occasionally performed with) Show of Hands, adding songs such as “Hallows’ Eve”, “The Old Lych Way” & “Katrina” to their repertoire, as well as performing with West Country folk legends Jim Causley & Miranda Sykes. Most recently, he co-wrote the RNLI bicentennial 2024 Christmas single “Pull Away” with James Studholme of Police Dog Hogan. Chris is also a highly regarded choral composer and arranger for amateur, community and professional choirs and this year was made a Cultural Fellow at Exeter University as well as Writer-In-Residence for Literature Works’ “Quay Words” series, writing songs inspired by early modern wills in the first case, and the River Exe & Exeter’s quayside for the latter.
Renowned Devon actor Martin Reeve has taken guest roles on some of the UK's leading series, including Little Bird, Dalziel and Pascoe, Judge John Deed, Holby City, Piggot in The Royal, and Emmerdale; he also has a PhD in the origins and development of Punch & Judy theatre. Martin is the evening’s Master of Ceremonies with regard to the spoken word - accompanied, of course, by some of the best straight-from-the-barrel, hand-draught beer in England to enjoy during the show.
Chris & Martin’s shows always sell out in advance, so the early purchase of tickets is strongly recommended.
