Languages in a Global World 2025
The Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences is delighted to announce the next event in the Languages in a Global World series.
Oliver Gadsby, Publisher and Charity Trustee, in conversation with and , is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 26th November, 17:00-18:00 on the University's Streatham Campus (Lecture Theatre `1, Queen's Building). There will be the option to join the event remotely, via Teams Webinar.
The conversation will explore the key role Oliver's undergraduate degree in French and German has played in his career and his experience of the powerful skill set that comes with knowledge of multiple languages.
The conversation will be followed by a Q&A for school students, hosted by , Head of the Languages, Cultures and Visual Studies department.
A drinks reception will take place in the Queen's Cafe after the event, from 18:00 - 19:00.

About our Guest Speaker
Oliver Gadsby is an internationally experienced and multilingual leader in the publishing and information industries, with a track record in the launch, turnaround, strategic extension, and development of complex businesses. Oliver’s experience ranges from large-scale mergers and acquisitions to hands-on management of award-winning creative businesses.
Having graduated from Exeter with a BA in French and German, Oliver taught English in Casablanca, before embarking on a career in publishing. He was an editor in Germany, a sales and marketing director in Sweden, and a CEO in several countries. Oliver is currently President of the Independent Publishers’ Guild and a Director of the Stationers’ Company (founded in 1403). He advises businesses in India, Switzerland and the UK, and is a Trustee of a UK charity supporting refugees.
