- **Event Name**: {SOLD OUT} Community Grief Lodge (July)
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sun, 19 Jul, 2026 at 02:00 pm – Sun, 19 Jul, 2026 at 07:00 pm
- **Event Description**: We invite you to what most perceive as radical, taboo and culturally unacceptable.

Please join us for an afternoon of remembering the potency of being in community with our tender hearts. This offering will be filled with song, movement, witnessing, being witnessed and an invitation to FEEL your grief in a new way.

Whether you are new to grieving with others or are familiar with the practice of tending grief, Community Grief Lodge is a space to tend to the many forms of grief that we hold inside us.

Our commitment with this offering is to give grief its rightful seat at the table of life, and when we do we become more fully human and feel more connected to each other. We view communal grief tending as a fundamental and basic need that we all have as humans and has only recently been removed from our cultures and communities.

Whatever you’re carrying, you don’t have to carry it alone.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY GRIEF LODGE?

A 5 hour community ritual, 15 minutes north of Bellingham, at Full Bloom Sanctuary. Where we meet in ritual space to connect to our many forms of grief which include grief, joy, confusion, numbness, anger, desire, longing, fear, etc. No prior experience in ritual or grief tending needed. This is open to anyone who is curious and open to exploring new and ancient ways of being with the complexity of the human experience.

“Grief is course correction.” - Malidoma Patrice Some

WHY WE OFFER THIS RITUAL?

As Sobonfu Somé said, “Grief is the glue of community.” We offer this space to give the many faces of grief a place to breathe. Rituals designed to grieve in community create the container for grief to really move. Sometimes this looks like wailing and raging while other times it’s more subtle and quiet.

So many of us are used to our friends, family and colleagues (the world!) trying to fix, help, offer advice or their own personal experiences to “console” us. Being in a space where agreements are made to just BE with others, no matter what they are going through, can be deeply healing and life giving.

“Grief, experienced by every human, repeatedly and often compounded, must be metabolized. Involving every layer of our being, grief offers a powerful invitation to courageously embody and remember our most essential self and oneness with all of life.” - Francis Weller, The Wild Edge of Sorrow

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

A space to practice being human together.

We welcome you to show up exactly as you are without needing to hide or perform. Everything we offer is optional - so as we encourage you to stay the course, we also trust you will honor what you are needing during our time together. You can expect to be witnessed and witness others in what they are carrying. You can expect a variety of noises of sobbing, raging and singing. You can expect time and space may be needed after the ritual to support integration as rituals like this can be stirring.

“We need to clear the pipes of grief to let joy flow.” - Sobonfu Some

LINEAGE OF TEACHERS
The style of grief ritual in this container is informed by - but not a direct descendant of - the teachings and offerings of Malidoma Patrice Somé, Sobonfu Somé, The Dagara People of Burkina Faso, West Africa, Francis Weller, Laurence Cole, Thérèse Charvet, Tere Carranza and the many colleagues we continue to learn from. We deeply honor and recognize the importance of each of our teachers as they have deeply influenced our offerings and the larger grief tending communities.
