- **Event Description**: In 1980, in response to funding cuts that threatened Center for Neighborhood Technology’s ability to continue our work in the community, our founders threw the first “CNT Rent Party,” a community celebration and fundraiser to help keep our doors open. Originating in Harlem during the 1920s, rent parties are about neighbors helping neighbors with mutual aid and support.

In 2025, following the federal funding cuts, we went back to this concept and hosted a virtual rent party/fundraiser. In 2026, we want to build on this by hosting an in-person Rent Party. We hope this will become an annual event to celebrate CNT’s community and raise funds to support our work.

The free, in-person event will bring together community members, partner organizations from across Chicagoland, and our supporters for an afternoon/evening of joy, gratitude, and togetherness. Our Rent Party will include tasty bites, music, and a chance to hear about Center for Neighborhood Technology.
