Once Bajirao I became the Peshwa and decided to shift his base from Saswad to Pune, his residence was built in Pune in 1732, known as the Shaniwarwada. This site subsequently became the centre of activity for this dynasty for years to come. Events like the Maharani's arrival, the M**der of Narayan Rao Peshwa, large-scale attacks, and finally, the loss of the centre to the British, are among many important events this wada has seen.
This site stands today as an indelible mark of the history that Pune lived though.
