About the Certification
The CyberTracker Track and Sign Certification is an internationally applied, professional-level certification used to promote wildlife tracking and knowledge. This two-day field experience is both an assessment and a training, with an emphasis on open dialogue and real learning. The tracks and sign of any and all species encountered in the field may be asked, whether big or small, clear or obscure, fresh or old. After participants give their answers for a set of questions, a dialogue ensues between the evaluator and participants to provide the opportunity for everyone involved to internalize field marks, wildlife behavior, and natural history. The certification emphasizes practical tracking and the development of reliable field skills, and are not associated with any particular philosophy or tracking school. No prior training is required to participate.
About the Evaluator
Sage began using tracking professionally in 2017 while working as a bear-viewing guide in the interior temperate rainforest of southeastern British Columbia. Since then, she has used tracking for various conservation-oriented wildlife biology jobs, targeting species ranging from bats and toads to moose, caribou, and grizzly bears. She is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Alberta, where she uses non-invasive methods to study various aspects of carnivore ecology and behaviour. Sage is passionate about integrating the art and science of wildlife tracking with modern wildlife biology to ask and answer ecological questions that support people and wildlife. Her academic publications, many of which use tracking as a method, can be found at Research Gate. Sage lives in British Columbia and Alberta.
