The Vornis Trio is a Hammond Organ combo that draws on the soulful side of Jazz and Blues and features 3 outstanding session and gigging musicians, Ross Stanley (Hammond B3 Organ) Nat Martin (Guitar and Vocals) and Pat Levett (Drums). They have individually worked with the likes of Tom Jones, Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, Maceo Parker, The Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, Zigaboo Modeliste (The Meters), Bernard Purdie, Jon Cleary, Elliot Randell (Steely Dan), The Coalminers, Jo Harman, Hamish Stuart (Average white Band) and Harvey Mason. With that amount of experience and talent on stage, the results are predictable - great live music. Here are a couple of examples.
At Coolham they will be joined by Kat Eaton, one of the finest female vocalists on the circuit. Cardiff born, Sheffield raised and now living in London, Kat is rapidly making a name for herself in the capital.
Originally discovered through BBC Introducing, Kat's singles ‘Giving It Up’ and ‘The Joker’ earned her strong support from the late Terry Wogan & Vanessa Feltz on BBC Radio 2, Robert Elms and Gaby Roslin on BBC Radio London and Mark Forrest on BBC Introducing. 'The Joker' was also play-listed at BBC Radio London and two more singles from ‘When You’re Not Around’ EP made it to the playlist of national radio station in Holland, NPO Radio 5.
Unsurprisingly given the raw honesty of her lyrical material, and the strength of her vocal, Kat has been compared to some of the industry’s strongest performers, including Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith and her hometown hero Joe Cocker.
Having already toured the UK supporting various artists, selling out multiple headlines shows in London, co-writing with the likes of Caro Emerald and Matt Cardle and breaking through to new territories via the National Radio airwaves of Holland and Belgium. Here are a couple of endorsements and a couple of videos to show why Kat thoroughly deserves them.
"A new talent and a UK exclusive play" - Sir Terry Wogan, BBC Radio 2
"I'm blown away! I wasn't expecting that...I'm very very impressed!" - Robert Elms, BBC Radio London
"Kat's voice is like sexy toffee. Just gorgeous!" - Gaby Roslin, BBC Radio London
With roots in the wild wilderness of West Sussex, Charlie Austen's original music is a brand of finger-picking folk-soul, emphasising carefully crafted lyrics, intricate guitar parts and unusual melodies to suit an airy-yet-powerful, blues-infused vocal style. All delivered with a genuine smile and, more often than not, a conspicuous lack of shoes.
Charlie has been a long standing member of indie rock band Lux Lisbon and more recently entered the blues scene as featured vocalist for cult band Nine Below Zero. Since working on her own material Charlie has caught the attention Squeeze front man Glenn Tilbrook and art rock icon Bryan Ferry, leading to high profile shows all over the UK and Europe.
Charlie’s own brand of lyrically-dense, finger-picking folk-soul began to develop with the discovery of her parents’ vinyl collection and the ensuing weeks spent alone in the attic with Carole King, Simon & Garfunkel and friends. From there came a love of storytelling and wordplay, as well as an appreciation for vocal harmonies and a relaxed, emotionally-direct singing style.
Charlie will be joined by her brother Oli Austen, a multi talented musician who plays guitar for drum n' bass outfit Sigma and drums in his melodic rock project Quiet Lions.
Here is an example of what to expect.
