Turn back the hands of time as Suburban Soles explores our Proud Past, as we follow University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Archaeological Research Laboratory Center archaeologist, Seth A. Schneider, as he leads us on a tour that connects the present to the past, covering over 10,000 years. He will describe the pre-European contact landscape and provide what archaeologist know of Native American cultures over these past ten millennia.  Native Americans have occupied and utilized the landscape within Grant Park and southeastern Wisconsin for over 10,000 years. The tour will provide information on how climate change affected early cultures in Wisconsin and how they managed the landscape. They also modified the landscape by building burial mounds in geometric and animal shapes that were placed overlooking wetlands, waterways, and lakes which occurred within and near Grant Park.
