This is the registration for virtual attendance.About the Workshop “Ohio; The Body Poetic: My Country 'Tis of Thee.”My Country Tis of Thee - a poetic panel on the longstanding history of dissent and swimming against the rising tide of literary silence.A little more about this initiative:Ohio: The Body Poetic Project is a series of events spread across the year leading up and into the nation’s semiquincentennial, and focused specifically on engaging people in the stories of Ohio as told through poetry. Poetry as both community and artform, has shaped this state and nation. This project will spend one year wrapping our state in poetic themes revealing the depth and breadth of artistic endeavor and distinct camaraderie in this field. OPA will offer new and classic voices as we dig into the pivotal role of poets, as conscience bearers of society. Each event's theme will speak through the lens of our nation's history, including our patriotism, despair, dissent, hopes and future states. Through state and local communities, and with in-person/virtual/public promotions we will engage through workshops, partnerships and prompts that encouraging our state to join in on poetry and revel in its worth and historic connection to our state.With both public and school aged prompts we will call for collective poems while highlighting poets and poetic communities thriving around the state. The project will expand knowledge of Ohio's famed poets of today and yesteryear, and root us in a deep poetic past that is growing into a blossoming future and must be celebrated.Registration closes on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at 5 p.m. EDT.
