Mindful Teachers, mindful, powerful, free kids!
This free event is an introduction to a series of Mindfulness training workshops for Kindergarten and Elementary Teachers. The intention of this event is for teachers to come and discover for themselves the benefits they and the kids can have from engaging in such work. Any teacher who completes this series of workshops will get a completion certificate that will indicate the hours of the course and the 6 month coaching on applying the principles in the classroom. Below is the curriculum of this course session by session.
The weekly sessions are on Thursdays 3:30-4:30 pm.
MINDFULNESS FUNDAMENTALS FOR KINDERGARTEN AND ELEMENTARY TEACHERS
Session 1: Mindfulness basics. Creating the terminology with children such that they can think through being mindful. Mindfulness exercises: Mindful Breathing and Mindful Listening.
Session 2: Mindfulness of Emotions. Games and scenarios for kids to learn to allow their bodies to teach them to take care of their own emotions and to regulate them.
Session 3: Teaching children how to NOT take things personally. Creating a way in the classroom for that to be integrated in the way classroom and student affairs are dealt with. Story “Maybe”.
Session 4: How to deal with bullying using the principles of mindfulness.
Session 5: Teaching children empathy and compassion through stories and personal examples. Altering roles – discussion.
Session 6: Mindful seeing. Exercises, games, art classes and discussions we can teach children to both empower their creativity and curiosity, but also to teach them to wonder.
Session 7: Teaching children to recognize and alter negative self- views. How to create that and continue to work on it in the classroom.
Session 8: Teaching children Generosity and the impact of complaining through videos, scenarios and games. Having them distinguish the thought that steals generosity.
Session 9: Cultivating gratitude. Importance of thankfulness.
Session 10: Mindfulness of Emotions: Scenarios. Taking care of our emotions.
Session 11: Being mindful of how we speak. Is it life giving or is it life taking? Flower experiment. Heartfulness Exercise.
Session 12: Mindful Thinking, Giving our thoughts to the clouds to clean.
Session 13: What does it mean to be present? Importance of being present. The mind jar.
Session 14: Letting things go vs carrying them.
Session 15: Dealing with No. Dealing with Failure.
Session 16: Mindful eating. Creating a relationship that allows our body to guide us towards health.
Session 17: Teaching kids through scenarios and role playing the importance of trust.
Session 18: Being mindful of Anger. Understanding and regulating our anger.
Session 19: We have a happiness tree! Exercises for happiness.
Session 20: Creating a happy/ safe place.
Session 21: Dealing with anxiety using Mindfulness.
Session 22: Mindful Playing/ Mindfulness challenge. Fun ways to have children practice being mindful.
