Philip Hoile oversees theatrical and home entertainment release activity at Bulldog. Philip has a background in marketing with over ten years experience across a wide range of film and entertainment product and release platforms through roles at Tartan, Icon and the award-winning marketing and publicity agency Organic.

SNACKBOX FILMS: GARRY WALSH, ADAM H. STEWART AND COLM NICELL make up the award-winning film and television production company SNACKBOX, which is based in Dublin, that creates uniquely Irish content, with broad international appeal, for the big and small screen both in Ireland and beyond. Established in 2014, the team at Snackbox have a wealth of experience in the film and television industry with diverse backgrounds in writing, production, distribution and exhibition. With an eclectic portfolio of projects under their belt, and more in production, Snackbox Films are one of Ireland's most dynamic independent production companies, responsible for the award-winning documentary Older Than Ireland. Their new documentary, Under The Clock, explores the social history of Ireland through the moving tales of ordinary people whose relationships began under one of Dublin’s most iconic landmarks - Clery’s clock.

GARRY WALSH is an award-winning filmmaker with over sixteen years experience in the film/theatrical industry, ten years of which was spent running one of Ireland’s most successful multiplex cinema chains. Gary is also an accomplished writer, currently working on a slate of projects for cinema and television.

ADAM H. STEWART is an award-winning animator, director and editor. He graduated from the American Film Institute in California. He is a highly experienced production designer and visual effects artist and has worked for all the major Hollywood Studios as well as leading Brand Design agencies Landor and Bluemarlin in London.

COLM NICELL is an award-winning Director of Photography with over 12 years experience in the film and television industry. He has worked in Ireland, the UK and The Middle East for broadcasters such as RTE, BBC, ITV, CNN and Al Jazeera as a camera/lighting Supervisor.

CARLO NERO, son of Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero, is a writer, director and producer of a number of award-winning films and documentaries including Roma Intorno A Roma (Rome Around Rome) - 3rd placed in the Documentary section at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (1991), A Kid From Bensonhurst (“First Look” showcase at Tribeca Film Center (NY, 1994), Larry’s Visit (Winner of Bronze Plaque at the Columbus International Film & Video Festival (1995). Carlo has also directed the costume drama short La Rosa E La Falce (The Rose And The Sickle), the documentary Casa Di Ghiaccio (House Of Ice), which was commissioned by the Italian Nuclear and Alternative Energy Organisation, and Letter From New York To Sarajevo - a concert film for UNICEF in New York.

Carlo co-wrote the screenplay for the feature length action-crime film The Touch (II Tocco), and then directed his first feature film Uninvited, based in the acclaimed novel by James Gabriel Berman. It screened at International film festivals around the world - including Cannes, San Sebastian, Hollywood, Moscow and Karlovy Vari. The Fever (HBO Films) was his second feature which he co-wrote and directed, and starred his mother Vanessa Redgrave with Angelina Jolie and Michael Moore. It received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for its star. In 2013 Carlo wrote and directed the drama The Call Out for Sky Arts ‘Playhouse Presents series. His most recent documentaries are Russia/Chechnya: Voices Of Dissent about the history of the Russian-Chechen conflict. Other documentaries include Wake Up The World about the history of UNICEF (Ischia Global Social Documentary Award 2008). Short films include Bounce in association with Bill Kenwright Ltd, The Killing Fields and Bosnia Rising. Eyes Of St. John was produced in association with St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group. Most recently Carlo has produced the documentary Sea Sorrow which signals his mother Vanessa Redgrave’s directorial debut, and draws attention to the current global migrant crisis. Carlo is the founder of Production Company Dissent Projects.

MAEVE MURPHY is an award winning Screen Writer and Director. Maeve was born in Belfast and attended Cambridge University where she was secretary of the Cambridge Footlights. Maeve also co-founded women’s theatre company Trouble and Strife. She made her short films Amazing Grace (|BFI), Salvage (NI Screen), and Sushi (Award winner, Venice Film Festival). Maeve’s latest short film Siobhan received The President’s Award at last year’s Sochi International Film Festival, Russia. Maeve has made three Award winning, theatrically released Feature Films; Silent Grace, which stars Orla Brady and is the untold story of the IRA female prisoner’s Dirty Protest and First Hunger Strike (which screened at Cannes and Galway), and received wide acclaim when shown on TV3. Maeve’s next film Beyond The Fire was the controversial romance about love in the wake of rape and religious sexual abuse, awarded Best UK Feature at the LIFF. Her third feature, Taking Stock, a heist comedy starring Kelly Brook won 8 International festival Awards - including Independent Spirit Award (Monaco.

Maeve is currently developing her latest short film Siobhan (which will screen as part of Shorts To Features Conference - information below) for television and a feature biopic based on the true love story between Shane MacGowan and Victoria Mary Clarke. Her documentary short, Global Network For Peace, about the impact of Hiroshima, was profiled on BBC Newsday/World News in March and screened in select UK

NUALA CUNNINGHAM is a Producer and Director with New Decade Films. New Decade is a Dublin based production company which was established in 1990, and has worked on a wide variety of projects from corporate videos and content to feature films and television programmes. Nuala Cunningham has been working as a Producer and Director with New Decade since 1997. She produces the majority of New Decade’s film and television projects and has managed budgets ranging from €10k to over €500,000.

Nuala has worked extensively in film and television - directing episodes of the RTE TV series ‘Tales From The Big House, and produced the hard hitting feature film Capital Letters (about the illegal trafficking of a young African girl in modern Dublin), and starring Ruth Negga. More recently, Nuala has produced the powerful and disturbing hybrid documentary I, Dolours. Archive footage is intercut with a face to face interview with Dolours Price, as well reconstructed scenes with the brilliant Lorna Larkin as the younger Price. The film is compelling and disturbing in equal measure and a real tour de force for all concerned.

SCREENWRITING with STUART DRENNAN & CHRISTOPHER MYERS (PRESENTED by BBC Writersroom).

Stuart Drennan’s debut feature screenplay, THE DIG won ‘Best Film’ at Galway Film Fleadh and had its International Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival ( https://www.tiff.net/tiff/the-dig/). It has been nominated for the British Independent Film Awards 2018 Discovery Award. Stuart has also written and directed award winning short films and television dramas, including Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, BBC’s 6 Degrees and Seacht.

Belfast based Producer Christopher Myers has worked in short film since 2008 more recently moving into development and production for features. In 2016 he produced the Royal Television Award winning “We Are You” short films reaching an online audience in excess of 500k. Christopher acted as Head of Production for feature “The Dig” winner Best Irish Feature Galway Film Fleadh 2018. Christopher studied film at The University of Kent. He loves a good story.

PETER COLLIS: HEAD OF 360˚ FILM @ INITION
Peter is a highly creative & multi-skilled innovator with a unique understanding of complex production workflows, utilising skills previously developed in the Film & TV industry. Peter has headed up the 3D Stereoscopic team at Inition for 8 years. His work has pushed the boundaries of stereoscopic 360˚ capture in both sound and image and includes exceptionally arresting 360˚ cinematography for high profile mixed filmed & CGI immersive projects.
In this talk Peter will introduce Inition's journey into 360/3D filmmaking and showcase a selection of recent work. He will present an overview of recent developments in 360 filmmaking, including the evolution of both the capture and display technologies. He will discuss the form as a new film-making format and the future implications for film-makers, business and the arts. There will also be opportunities during the day for delegates to experience some of Inition’s films on the Gear VR head sets.

FFF MOVING IMAGES ARTS STUDENT PROGRAMME, in Association with CCEA

The Foyle Film Festival launched CCEA’s Moving Images Arts (MIA) Student Awards Showcase in 2003, with the support and sponsorship of Michael Bond from City of Derry Crystal. The showcase was conceived as a way of marking and celebrating the work produced by students undertaking the new Moving Image Arts subject. This year marks the 15thAnniversary of Foyle Film Festival’s launch of the Moving Image Arts Showcase, in collaboration with CCEA, as an annual celebration of the talent, imagination and creativity of the MIA students by awarding the specially created City of Derry Crystal Awards for the best films. The festival hopes to be accepting the work of MIA students into the Light In Motion (LIM) Competition (Oscar® and BAFTA®affiliated) in future years.


The festival will mark this important anniversary with the introduction of The Moving Images Arts Student Programme at this year’s Foyle Film Festival Shorts To Features Conference. The MIA Student Programme aims to give a platform to successful MIA students to screen their work and network with industry professionals as part of the Shorts To Features Conference.
