Excluding farmers from agriculture! Understanding Indian agrarian crisis and policy shifts
Studying historical and recent policy directions is essential to understand the ongoing agrarian crisis in India. There is a larger section of the peasantry opting out of agriculture – being forced out to take up jobs of unorganised sector workers migrating to other areas. This talk will extensively focus on recent policy shifts, discuss several of the recent legislations and proposed bills related to agriculture and allied sectors.
About the speaker: Dr. Vijoo Krishnan is a political scientist and peasant activist. He completed his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi on impact of neo-liberal economic policies on the Indian peasantry. He is currently the joint secretary of All India Kisan Sabha.
