- **Event Name**: Cue-Centered Therapy
- **Event Start and End Date**: Mon, 09 Mar, 2026 at 09:00 am – Mon, 09 Mar, 2026 at 05:00 pm
- **Event Description**: Join CTI and Stanford School of Medicine for this two-part training.About this EventCue-Centered Therapy (CCT) is an evidence-based intervention for youth who have experienced chronic trauma. Developed by Dr. Victor Carrión and the team at Stanford’s Early Life Stress and Resilience Program, CCT has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD in youth ages 8–18. Grounded in the neurobiology of trauma, CCT helps youth understand how trauma-related cues develop and how these cues influence emotions, thoughts, physical reactions, and behavior. Join us for a two-part training on the foundations and implementation of CCT to build both conceptual understanding and practical skills for clinical practice.Course 1: Foundations of Cue-Centered TherapySelf-paced | Online | ~6 hoursThis self-paced online course introduces the core concepts, structure, and clinical applications of Cue-Centered Therapy (CCT). Participants will learn how chronic stress shapes a young person’s emotional and behavioral responses over time and how to work with trauma cues in ways that support safety, insight, and empowerment.Following registration, participants will receive a link from Stanford School of Medicine with access to the self-paced foundational course.Complete Course 1 by March 8, 2026 to receive 6 CE credits from Stanford School of Medicine for participants who qualify.Course 1 is a preparatory course for the in-person advanced session.Upon completion of Course 1, participants will be able to:Recognize the clinical presentations of complex trauma.Provide a conceptualization of trauma and the CCT treatment process.Explain to children and their caregivers the psychological aftermath of trauma, long-term consequences of not addressing trauma, and benefits of treatment.Identify how to link cues to symptoms, emotions, thoughts, behaviors and physical feelings.Apply mindfulness, relaxation, and cognitive tools to manage trauma related symptoms.Design imaginary exposures and in-session exposures to cues.Course 2: Advanced Theory and Practice of Cue-Centered TherapyIn-person | Monday, March 9, 2026, 9am - 5pm | San FranciscoThis one-day, in-person training is led by Victor G. Carrión, MD, developer of Cue-Centered Therapy. Building on the online foundations course, participants will deepen their understanding through hands-on practice and guided discussion. The day includes:Role-plays and case-based learning.Practical application of CCT strategies.Direct instruction and feedback from Dr. Carrión.7 CE credits from The Center for Children and Youth for participants who qualify.Breakfast and Lunch.Upon completion of Course 2, participants will be able to:Describe the core components of Cue-Centered Therapy.Demonstrate the treatment skills used in Cue-Centered Therapy.Recognize challenges that may arise in treatment of complex trauma and develop strategies for addressing those challenges.Explain how trauma-related cues develop through classical conditioning and contribute to the maintenance of trauma responses.Describe how cues influence children’s emotions, cognitions, physiological reactions, and behaviors.Examine how a child's existing strengths and adaptive coping skills can be drawn on to increase resilience and effective trauma recovery.Identify how to incorporate Cue-Centered Therapy into the learner's own practice.Note: The CCT manual is available for purchase here.Past participants recommend reviewing the manual in preparation for Course 2.About the Trainer:Victor G. Carrión, MD is the John A. Turner, M.D. Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stanford University School of Medicine and Vice-Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He directs the Stanford Early Life Stress and Resilience Program. Since joining the faculty at Stanford 25 years ago, Dr. Carrión's research has concentrated on understanding how early life stress, such as traumatic experiences, alters behavior and emotion and the role of brain structure and function in these findings. He has also developed new treatment modalities that are focused and targeted. In 2011, he joined the Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission for the State of California, which he chaired from 2014 – 2016. He published the main text on the neuroscience of posttraumatic stress in youth, as well as texts on treatment and prevention. He has received multiple awards from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the National Institutes of Health, among others. Please Note:CTI knowingly acknowledges that the information presented in the program by Victor G. Carrión may reference material widely written about by the author but is not intended to promote the sale of his book. Neither CTI nor Victor G. Carrión will be selling his books at any time during the program.Continuing Education Credits:Full attendance for both courses meets the qualifications for 13 hours of continuing education credit. In order to receive CE credits, participants must purchase a Registration Including CE Credit ticket. The full self-paced online course must be completed by March 9 to receive 6 CE credits for course one and certificates will be provided by Stanford School of Medicine.Full attendance in-person is required in order to receive 7 CE credits for course two. Failure to meet this requirement will prohibit the Child Training Institute from issuing a CE certificate and no refund will be provided.Child Training Institute (CTI) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CTI maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The CA BBS recognizes the APA as an approval agency to meet their CE requirements. Disciplines such as social workers and counselors outside of California should check with their respective state board to assure acceptance of APA approved sponsors for CE credits.Registration and Cancellation:Pre-registration is required.Course two: Cancellation requests emailed to the event manager prior to 11:59 pm on Sunday, 3/8/26, will receive a full refund. No refunds for cancellation requests received on or after 3/9/26 regardless of the cause for cancellation including failure to attend on the day of the training. If the training cannot be held due to circumstances beyond the hosts’ control (natural disaster, strike, fire, severe weather, illness of speaker, speaker cancellation, etc.) the event will be rescheduled, if possible, and the registration fee applied to that date. If rescheduling is not possible or the registrant cannot attend the rescheduled date, reimbursement will be provided less any actual costs accrued. For questions, scholarships, and discounts for students and interns, please contact Teresa Merenda, Child Training Institute Program Coordinator, at TeresaM@jfcs.org. https://cdn-az.allevents.in/events4/banners/762527b0-1084-11f1-b205-49d23285143a-rimg-w1200-h224-dcffffff-gmir.jpg
