Aaliya's political book club - 'Orientalism'
Forty years since its release Edward Said’s Orientalism is one of the most influential works on the Middle East, radically changing the study of the region.
The book simply and persistently takes the reader through the history of the ‘West’s’ relations to the ‘East,’ with all the prejudices and stereotypes that comes with it.
However, the book came out in in 1978, a time when the US was still buddies with Iran and the War on Terror was a generation away. So, is Orientalism still relevant?
We will be talking about this question and more at Aaliya's Books next political book club.
If you read the book a while ago and want to revisit it, if you have been meaning to read it for a while or if you just want to come down and listen, we would love to have you.
