Millions of Americans, including a disproportionate number of children and young adults, live with permanent disabilities stemming from past TBIs, as highlighted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Beyond the staggering financial burdens, these individuals and their families grapple with profound personal and societal consequences. The long-term effects of TBI – encompassing a spectrum from cognitive and emotional challenges to sensory and motor dysfunctions – are often insidious and unseen, earning TBI the moniker "the invisible epidemic." Unlike outwardly visible injuries, TBI's hidden disabilities can drastically alter life trajectories, impacting career paths, social interactions, and family dynamics, often leading to limited public awareness and understanding.Addressing this complex challenge demands proactive and integrated strategies, translating cutting-edge research into effective clinical practice. This conference is specifically designed to bridge the crucial gaps in knowledge and clinical application surrounding TBI management. Through a series of expert-led sessions, we aim to equip physicians, therapists, and healthcare teams with the latest evidence-based findings and practical, multidisciplinary approaches. Our focus spans the entire continuum of care, from acute neuro-intensive interventions and neurosurgical considerations to comprehensive rehabilitation strategies and vital psychosocial support. By fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous learning, this conference seeks to accelerate the adoption of best practices, ultimately elevating the quality of life for TBI survivors and significantly mitigating its pervasive impact on societyProgram Objectives: All Northwell Health continuing medical education activities are designed to improve patient care, safety, and outcomes. At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:Explain the critical role of acute neuro-intensive care and neuroprotection in shaping long-term TBI recovery.Describe the recognition, diagnosis, and medical/neurosurgical management of common complications after TBI, such as post-traumatic epilepsy, hydrocephalus, and cerebral fluid dynamics.Discuss interdisciplinary collaborative approaches for specialized rehabilitation interventions, including airway management, decannulation, and strategies for improving speech and swallow function in TBI patients.Evaluate multidimensional strategies for managing gait impairments and promoting physical well-being in TBI survivors.Identify the role of strategic nutritional support in cognitive restoration and overall recovery after brain injury.Explain methods for fostering mental wellness, developing coping strategies, and addressing psychosocial challenges within TBI rehabilitation, informed by patient experiences.Integrate principles of early identification and evidence-based interventions to optimize diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes across the continuum of TBI care.Target Audience: Joint Accreditation Statement: In support of improving patient care, Northwell Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Ph*rm*cy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.Credit Designation Statements:This activity was planned by and for MDs, RNs, RD, PTs, PTAs, SLPs, OTR/Ls & Social Workers.
