What To Bring To Auditions:
Bring yourselves with a little comedic energy in mind! This is a fast paced comedy show that demands some stamina!

Please fill out the audition form by listing any scheduling conflicts you have from mid-October through early December. This includes work schedule conflicts and other outside obligations that could impact your rehearsal availabilities.

Note: We will not have rehearsals on Wednesday and Friday evenings up until December, plus Thanksgiving weekend. There may be a Saturday pickup rehearsal in November. Considering British dialect is needed, we will go through a dialect workshop before proceeding with rehearsals for the show.

Sunday tech is Dec. 6th (times TBA) followed by tech rehearsals until opening Dec. 10th (Thursday). Strike will follow immediately after performance weekend Dec. 14th (times TBA). There should be no conflicts during this time, unless there are personal emergencies to followup on.

What to Expect At Auditions:
For auditions, we will have everyone read monologues from the classic Jane Austen novel that do not specify the character, nor the motive. You will be given directions on how to perform the monologue in a way that contrasts with its original (unknowing) intent. For example, "You're a realtor trying to sell a house", or "An auctioneer", or "A teacher about to have a breakdown in front of their students". These will vary depending on what is randomly selected. Ad-libbing is heavily encouraged during these monologues.
Afterward, once everyone has done their monologue, we will do sides from the play!
Anyone specifying the roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in their audition forms will need to stay after we excuse all other role preferences.

About the Show:
This isn’t your grandmother’s Austen! Bold, surprising, boisterous and timely, this Pride and Prejudice for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical or so full of life as it does in this effervescent adaptation. Because what turns us into greater fools than the high-stakes game of love?

Characters:
Unless specified, the ages of the characters are flexible and casting will be based purely on chemistry between actors or delivery in general. Considering double casting is encouraged, some performers might portray several different roles at once. Gender-flexible and cross-age casting only adds gradual comedic effect to this fast-paced, irreverent farce.
*Lizzy and Mr. Darcy are the only roles that will NOT be double casted.
Lizzy (Elizabeth) Bennet - (F, 20s-30s) : The outspoken, intelligent, and fiercely independent second-oldest sister who prides herself on her good judgment.
Mr. Darcy - (M, 20s-30s) : A tall, wealthy, aloof, and seemingly arrogant gentleman who challenges Lizzy's first impressions.

Jane Bennet : The eldest, most beautiful, kind, and idealistic Bennet sister.

Mr. Bingley : Jane’s kind, cheerful, and wealthy suitor.

Mrs. Bennet - (F, late 40s-60s) : The overbearing, status-conscious mother desperate to marry off all her daughters.

Mr. Bennet - (F/M, late 40s-60s) : The dryly amused, slightly overwhelmed father.

Lydia Bennet :The youngest, wildest, and most impulsive Bennet sister.

Mary Bennet : Portrayed in this adaptation with a distinct, over-the-top comedic and sickly disposition.

Charlotte Lucas : Lizzy’s pragmatic friend who views marriage as a matter of economic survival.

Mr. Collins : An absurdly pompous clergyman.

Mr. Wickham: A charming military man with a shady past.

Lady Catherine de Bourgh / Miss de Bourgh / Caroline Bingley (Miss Bingley) : Snobbish and aristocratic supporting figures.
