Event Details: We invite the community to join our fourth annual Sequoia Park & Zoo bioblitz and inaugural scavenger hunt on Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 8am-11am. Come discover the amazing diversity of animals, plants, and fungi in our local redwood forest before heading back to the Zoo for our big Party for the Planet celebration (included with paid admission or membership) from 11am-3pm! Our kid-friendly scavenger hunt is very flexible and can be completed in Sequoia Park and/or Sequoia Park Zoo throughout the day. Scavengers receive a sticker with their printout, and winners earn a beautifully designed owl sticker prize (while supplies last) that can be claimed during the bioblitz or at the Sequoia Park Zoo during Party for the Planet! Participating in a bioblitz is a fun way to observe nature, enjoy quality family time, and contribute to real scientific research where we monitor changes in Sequoia Park over time. This ADA-accessible, family-friendly event is open to everyone - no experience necessary! Beginners meet at the Sequoia Park Zoo (3414 W Street, Eureka) at 8am (with gates closing at 8:15am) to learn how to install and use the free Naturalist app on their own phone. Those with experience using iNaturalist can arrive at 9am. From 9am-10am, follow a guided bioblitz along the Redwood Sky Walk. Prior to the Zoo opening, all participants will exit the Zoo to continue the bioblitz in Sequoia Park from 10am-11am. Participants can leave at any time. All participants must sign a liability waiver. While all ages are welcome, children 15 years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult guardian. The bioblitz is held in ADA-accessible areas, though some participants may venture into areas that are not accessible. Anyone can contribute to this bioblitz on iNaturalist by joining the project "2026 Sequoia Park Zoo Bioblitz."
