# Event Details - **Event Name**: Arianna String Quartet Mainstage Concert - **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 28 Feb, 2026 at 07:30 pm - **Event Description**: The Eureka Chamber Music Series is delighted to welcome back the Arianna String Quartet for two exceptional concerts and a full week of educational outreach in north coast string orchestra classrooms. As the Quartet in Residence at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, the Arianna has earned a stellar reputation for their outstanding musicianship, for their critically acclaimed recordings, and for their teaching, both close to home in St. Louis and in South America, where the Arianna has directed the Intensive Quartet Program at the Festival of Music in Santa Catarina, Brazil for over ten years. The ECMS Mainstage Concert will be presented on Saturday, February 28th at 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Eureka. The repertoire for the evening will include String Quartet No. 5 in F minor, Op. 20 by the father of the string quartet himself, Joseph Haydn, as well as two early twentieth century works by two Hungarian master composers, String Quartet No. 2 in A minor, Op. 17 by Béla Bartók, and String Quartet No. 3 in A minor, Op. 33 by Ernő Dohnányi. On Sunday, March 1st at 3:00 at The Lutheran Church of Arcata, the Arianna will perform String Quartet No. 3 in F major, Op. 73, composed immediately following the Second World War by the great Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich. This Concert & Conversation format will include the music, plus an insightful conversation between the artists and the audience. Concert and Conversation tickets are $20 general and $5 for students. As always, purchasing tickets in advance is recommended for this popular concert series. There are no added fees or service charges when ordering tickets online. During this upcoming trip to the north coast, the Arianna will continue their mentorship of local middle and high school string orchestra students that they began in the winter of 2024, when Eureka Chamber Music Series brought them here to share their insights about string playing techniques, bowing, and articulation, as well as musicality and listening skills. In March of 2024, this educational outreach event culminated with a mass orchestra performance featuring 86 players from four local schools in the Fine Arts Building at Arcata High School, where the students were able to share their hard work with their parents and families. This year, the event will culminate with a performance by over 100 students from six local schools at the Eureka High School Auditorium on Friday, February 27th at 7:00 p.m. The members of the Arianna String Quartet will lead a conductorless mass student orchestra, performing the music that was rehearsed during the week in the students' respective classrooms. Putting new playing techniques and strategies to good use, as well as demonstrating listening skills and teamwork, are the primary goals of the evening. Having fun will also be strongly encouraged. Parents, family, and friends are all invited to attend. On the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus, the Arianna String Quartet enriches the academic experience of students outside of the music department by visiting classes in physics, business, history, philosophy, art, and language to actively demonstrate the interdisciplinary connections between music and these seemingly disparate disciplines. The ASQ also presents an interdisciplinary performance and lecture series “First Mondays with the ASQ”, at KWMU, St. Louis Public Radio. The Arianna Quartet were recipients of the 2022 University of Missouri-St. Louis Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Collaborative Research and Creativity. The Eureka Chamber Music Service was born from a labor of love, started decades ago by Pearl and Bob Micheli, a conservatory trained pianist and voice teacher, and a fine amateur violinist, respectively. The Michelis moved to Eureka in the early nineteen-nineties and began hiring classical musicians to travel to Humboldt County and play concerts for a small but dedicated audience. Incorporated as a non-profit in 2019, the Eureka Chamber Music Series continues to enrich the cultural landscape of the north coast by bringing world-class musicians to Humboldt County and by ensuring that the mission of ECMS is community supported and sustainable.
