- **Event Name**: Arcata Rising Art Silent Auction. Community Art archive sale for the artist that lost everything!
- **Event Start and End Date**: Sat, 31 Jan, 2026 at 12:00 pm – Sat, 31 Jan, 2026 at 07:30 pm
- **Event Description**: Like so many Humboldt residents, We’ve been thinking about what we can do to help with fire recovery. Our thoughts have been especially with the artists who were first displaced from their studios at Stuart School, only to lose everything when they moved into a new space. Years of artwork—along with tools, paint, canvas, and other essential supplies—were lost.

Humboldt has a long tradition of local art auctions, and we suspect I’m not the only one with more art than fits on my walls. Rather than asking artists—many of whom have already lost so much—to donate their work, I’m proposing that those of us who are art holders come together for a sale or silent auction to help ease the pain of this devastating loss.

We are hosting a silent auction not only to raise funds, but also to create a gathering that encourages conversation and sparks additional ideas for supporting recovery. I’m inviting contributions of artwork, as well as music, poetry, wine, beer, non-alcoholic tastings, tasty treats, and other art-forward activations that will help make the event vibrant and welcoming.

Enthusiasm for this effort is growing, and our community is coming together. Startup Humboldt (the Small Business Development Center) has generously donated its beautiful space as the venue. We are organizing quickly and connecting with the community—if you’d like to donate art, time, or talents, please let us know.

Joyce Plath the art matriarch of this event has loved Humboldt, since she moved here in 1972 to teach art and women’s studies. Then she soon realized that her best way to creatively contribute to the area was to return to grad school and headed to Berkeley to receive her second masters degree. She focused on smaller scale architecture has she knew the rest of her life and career was here. For the last 46’ years she has helped arcata recover from fires through passionate architectural design and creativity. Arcata will rise again, and as they always have, artists will lead the way. Joyce Plath still here and this 83 year old is ready to help! Artists never retire!
