Three of Eugene's great songwriters, Austen Slone. Fred Van Vactor and Gary Battles, in the round, taking turns and amusing and amazing.
Gary Battle's been making music, singing songs, and being a general rock and roll nuisance for over 40 years and he's got the songs to prove it.
Austen Slone's started playing music at the beginning of high school and performed in bands on guitar and electric bass. He
grew up in a very music centric family, and it was encouraged to make music, and explore different musical genres. Music is a refuge for Austen and his family whether they are listening or playing, and something he learned to be grounding and a safe place to create. In the early years of his college life, he started playing mandolin and came down with bluegrass fever. Ever since, he has been learning traditional bluegrass tunes, and working on songwriting, both with and without his current band, The Muddy Souls.
Fred Van Vactor is a vibrant and entertaining local Oregon singer-songwriter whose songs vary stylistically from catchy power-pop, to rock, to modern folk, to melancholy sweet. His poetic use of wordplay reveals plenty of original personality, charm, wit, and insightful humor. Fred has been compared to artists such as: Harry Nilson, Warren Zevon, and Rivers Cuomo. His Album entitled: Everything Good All At Once was recorded and produced by Christopher Hoffee in San Diego Ca. He currently lives in Eugene.
