SteepleChase recording artist Joe Manis is an Oregon Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship recipient whose résumé includes NPR's Jazz Night in America, a Carnegie Hall performance with Thomas Mapfumo and the Blacks Unlimited, and a DownBeat "Best Albums of 2015" credit alongside George Colligan. A New England Conservatory-trained saxophonist and current University of Oregon faculty member, Manis brings deep scholarship and road-tested chops to every performance.

Guitarist John Storie, Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Oregon, boasts a career that spans jazz clubs and mainstream stardom alike — from years touring globally with Jeff Goldblum's Mildred Snitzer Orchestra (with guest turns by Miley Cyrus and Gregory Porter) to a Platinum-certified single with Gwen Stefani. A Thelonious Monk Competition semi-finalist, Storie is also co-founder of the acclaimed New West Guitars trio.

Bassist Tyler Abbott moves fluidly between the classical and jazz worlds, performing with the Oregon and Eugene Symphonies as well as jazz luminaries like Branford Marsalis, Danilo Perez, and Seamus Blake. A frequent presenter at International Society of Bassists Conventions, he also teaches double bass and jazz bass at the University of Oregon.

Drummer Charlie Doggett has spent over two decades as a fixture of the Portland jazz scene, touring internationally and performing alongside artists including Esperanza Spalding, Nancy King, and Ethan Iverson. All About Jazz has praised his playing for its "cunningness and unrelenting swing."

Together, these seasoned players bring decades of collective experience — and a shared love of Rollins and Coltrane's music — to what promises to be an inspired evening of straight-ahead jazz.
