Join us for Eugene's first annual Gayli, an Irish social dance with LGBTQIA+ flair hosted by the Blackthorn Academy of Irish Dance and Frolicking Meese Ceili Dance, with the support of Queer Eugene!
Never heard of a Gayli before? Never fear! The word "Gayli" is a portmanteau of the words "gay" and "ceili", making it the perfect word to use to describe a queer-friendly Irish social dance. Our ceili events always start with a 30-minute lesson where all attendees are taught the moves by our wonderful friends the Frolicking Meese. After the lesson, we dance, chat, and snack to our heart's content. A special performance by the Blackthorn Academy of Irish Dance will take place partway through the event, so you will get to see a different style of Irish dancing too! Come make some new friends, hang out with old ones, and check out a fun way to exercise and learn a new skill!
The lesson begins at 7pm and dancing goes from 7:30pm to 10pm. Meet us in the Community Hall at 440 Maxwell Rd. in Eugene. We will have a table for snacks, so bring your favorite treat to share if you'd like. We do request that you bring a card with allergen info so that everyone can safely participate in snack time. Make sure you bring a water bottle - it can get hot during a ceili! Feel free to wear your most fabulous outfit, too - just make sure you can move safely in it!
This event is free to attend. Donations to Blackthorn Academy, Frolicking Meese, and Queer Eugene are welcome but not expected.
