Creativity Café at The Hybrid Gallery
Summer Saturday Afternoons
1-3 pm
June, July, and August
Dates : June 7th and 28th
July 5th and 19th
August 2nd and 16th
Join Mikalina and Gloria for two hours of low-stakes, open-ended creative process time in a facilitated community setting.
All materials will be provided.
Suggested donation for materials and facilitation: $10 per adult. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
We will be creating on 11x14 mixed media paper. If you wish to bring your own notebook for the purpose of creating an art journal, feel free to do so.
Each Creativity Cafe will have accessible and open ended themes and activities to serve as a jumping off point. Participants will be guided in a way that helps us open to exploration, experimentation, process, and expression rather than focusing on trying to achieve a particular outcome or end product.
We’ll lower the stakes, loosen up, and remember that play is the origin of the creative impulse.
Examples of activities and themes we’ll explore include:
Into the Spiral: exploring the fundamental shape of the universe
Woven Paper Collages: lattice work and textural collaging
The Anatomical Heart: learn to draw it and fill it up
Pattern Play: the magic of repetition
Moon People: simple figures with a powerful presence
Blind Contour Drawing: keep your eyes off your paper and draw what you see
Right Here, Write Now: 10 minutes of words on the page
Strange Creatures: fantastical animals and wild faces
Self Portraits: self discovery through self portraiture
Just Keep Painting: process painting, how far can you take it?
Humans of all ages are welcome to join. Kids must have an adult present.
Attendees are not required to do the activity of the day, feel free to come on in to create what is calling you.

Gloria is a Eugene based artist engaging with intuitive art practices Including meditation, spiritual channeling and exploring the natural world. Working primarily in acrylic paint and mixed media, she has been an artist her whole life, finding imagery her preferred tool to convey emotion and experience. Finding joy and fulfillment in the dedication to her art, she continues to explore how her work can facilitate healing in our communities.
About Mikalina: Mikalina Kirkpatrick (they/she) has been involved in the facilitated creative process world since 2013 when they joined a Wild Writing circle with Laurie Wagner. Over the last decade plus she has both participated in and facilitated both writing and visual art circles that emphasize process and experience over end product.
Mikalina wholeheartedly believes:
-that creativity is an inherent human trait that all people have the ability to access
-that creative play in groups creates a sense of community that has ancient roots
-that participating in the act of creation is a deeply life affirming act, spiritual act
-that adopting regularly visited practices of creativity as a low-stakes, experimental, play-oriented activity can be one of the most intuition-flexing, personal truth-revealing, and heart-opening things we can do for ourselves
