Dennis Smith’s songs cut to the core of life's experiences. He's been writing and performing for forty plus years now with three CD’s to his credit. A self-proclaimed obscure artist, Dennis lives and writes his music in the backwoods of Fall Creek, Oregon as well as during his travels in Costa Rica and East Africa. His recent CD ‘On the Road to Liberia” (2020) features four songs written about Costa Rica. His 2014 CD “Walkin on Burnside” includes the exciting song, “From Nairobi to Zanzibar” written in Tanzania, as well as songs about his homeland, including the title track about Portland, Oregon. He and the Hillbilly Fools share his uplifting and thought provoking folk/rock style originals, with a touch of the blues that are both charismatic and danceable.
Smith has been influenced by J.J. Cale, Marc Knophler, Jackson Browne, John Mayall and Bob Dylan, to name a few, however Dennis has never been infatuated with fame, only the joy of an exciting performance and a legacy of memorable tunes. He and his band have been mainstay performers at the Eugene Saturday and Holiday markets as well as other locations in the Western Oregon area for quite some time.
Presently he and his band of talented musicians from Eugene are; Jerry Zybach, lead guitar/vocals, Mike Hatgis, electric bass/vocals, and Rick Markstrom, drums/vocals. They’re looking forward to the 2023 venue shows and festival season.
