Embracing the wild: an invitation to reconnect & reflect, 15 October | Event in Etterbeek | AllEvents.in Embracing the wild: an invitation to reconnect & reflect

Come to this unique event that explores sustainability themes thanks to a photo exhibition.

Have you read the book "Women who run with the wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estés?

While it was written before the rise of sustainability discussions the book's themes strongly connect with many sustainability principles.

Alizee ccm an incredible photographer has captured the essence of the book through her own work exploring sustainability ideas such as:

  • Reconnection with nature:

Estés' book emphasizes the importance of women reconnecting with their wild instinctual nature. This aligns with the environmental sustainability concept of humans reconnecting with and respecting nature.

  • Cyclic thinking:

The book often references natural cycles and rhythms which is also a key aspect of environmental sustainability - understanding and working with natural cycles rather than against them.

  • Cultural preservation:

Estés uses folklore and myths from various cultures highlighting the importance of preserving diverse cultural wisdom. This relates to social sustainability which includes maintaining cultural diversity.

  • Holistic worldview:

The book promotes a holistic understanding of the self and the world similar to how sustainability encourages viewing environmental and social issues as interconnected.

  • Empowerment of marginalized voices:

By focusing on women's experiences and wisdom the book aligns with social sustainability's goal of empowering marginalized groups and promoting equality.

  • Intergenerational wisdom:

Estés often refers to ancestral knowledge which resonates with sustainability's focus on intergenerational equity and long-term thinking.

  • Resilience and adaptability:

The archetypal wild woman in the book embodies resilience and adaptability qualities that are crucial for both environmental and social.

Alizee will guide you through her photo exhibition and through introspection using thought-provoking questions drawing inspiration from the female archetypes portrayed in the book. These inquiries will encourage you to examine your own life experiences and personal journey.
