Making of Noita – The Pixel-Based Physics Roguelite

Noita is a magical action roguelite set in a world where every pixel is physically simulated. Players can fight, explore, melt, burn, freeze and evaporate their way through the procedurally generated world using spells they have crafted themselves. Noita was launched in early access in 24th of September and immediately went to the top-selling list of Steam games. On this lecture, the creators of the game Petri Puro, Arvi Teikari and Olli Harjola discuss the creative process of making Noita and different roles they had for the production.
Petri Purho is best known as the creator of Crayon Physics Deluxe. In his youth he also made a lot tiny experimental games. Olli Harjola is known for his critically acclaimed atmospheric puzzle platformer The Swapper. Arvi “Hempuli” Teikari’s Baba is You has received several awards and nominations. Teikari has also created many other small games including Environmental Station Alpha. Together Petri Purho, Olli Harjola and Arvi Teikari form indie game company Nolla Games, which is based in Helsinki, Finland.
