As part of Surrey Librariesβ celebrations for National Storytelling Week 2026, we are delighted to present Codename Lise.
This yearβs theme, βStories into Darkness,β explores narratives of courage and resilience in the most challenging circumstances. Odetteβs extraordinary experiences and compelling story make this event a perfect fit for the occasion.
Odette Sansom was among the first women agents sent into occupied France by SOE, the Special Operations Executive in 1942 and worked as a courier alongside the organiser of the circuit, Peter Churchill.
Odette was eventually captured by the Gestapo and cruelly tortured before being sent to Ravensbruck Concentration Camp. Odette survived her ordeal and was later awarded the George Cross for bravery. Sophie Parker, Odette's granddaughter talks about her grandmother's wartime experiences , with readings from the book, 'Code Name : Lise ' by Larry Loftis read by actress , Emily Frain.
Join us for an inspiring session that brings history to life and honours the power of storytelling in times of adversity.
