Equanimity is the ability to allow changing emotions and circumstances without being overwhelmed by them.  It poses the question, “Can I stand in the middle of this, feel what I feel and respond with compassion?”  Equanimity allows us to meet both pleasant and unpleasant experiences without being pulled into clinging, resistance, judgment, or reactivity. 

During our September “sangha” we will explore equanimity as both a quality of the mind and the heart and how it relates to strong emotions, difficult relationships and things outside of our control.  Through guided meditation, reflection, and discussion, we will explore how to remain present and responsive without being overwhelmed by our preferences and aversions.

The Yoga Place Sangha is a community of like-minded individuals seeking a mindful way of life.  No meditation is required for this group.  It’s the perfect place for both beginners and those who already practice meditation.  It is not silent meditation but rather guided with the intention to stay present and relaxed rather than lost in thought.  We practice from 3:00-4:30 and socialize with tea and snacks from 4:30-5:00 PM.  Please dress for comfort.  Yoga mats are optional for those who want to lie down during meditation.
