We recommend workshop attendees join the online class before attending this workshop to get the most out of their experience. The lecture will be recorded and a link for reviewing will be available for 30 days.Not able to join the workshop? We offer the online lecture as a stand-alone ON LOCATIONJack will lead a small group of photographers to a fantastic, secluded viewpoint of Mt. Rainier. The night will begin with an overview of the techniques discussed in the prerequisite online lecture as the group prepares to put them into practice.LOCATION: High-clearance vehicles are advised but not required. We will shuttle attendees from the access road gate to the fire lookout and back to the parking lot when it's time to leave. Detailed directions to our meeting location will be emailed via Eventbrite three days before the workshop. is required.What You Will LearnWe will meet on location with time to scout and plan compositions.Jack will share his personal approach to how he plans his entire night to maximize his time shooting and ensure that he leaves with images he is excited about.The night will begin with the sun setting on Mt. Rainier, then capturing the blue hour stars, followed by chasing Milky Way compositions using learned shooting techniques. If time permits, Jack can help you set up to shoot star trails.What You Should BringA DSLR or Mirrorless Camera with manual settingsA fast aperture lens (Sigma will have loaners if you don't own one)Extra batteries (2 or more) and memory cards (64gb+)A sturdy tripodShutter Release / IntervalometerRed light-equipped headlamp, the red light will be less harsh on our eyes and help keep night vision intact!Warm clothing – Dress in layers to help stay warm. Hand warmers just in case.Wear decent hiking shoes/boots to manage the terrainWater/SnacksSIGMA LOANER GEAR!Reserve a Sigma lens for the workshop via a link in your registration confirmation email. If you don't own a fast aperture lens, or want to try a different lens, Aaron Norberg & Jen Trail, from SIGMA, will be on hand with a selection of SIGMA lenses for attendees to use during the location outing. But mounts and focal lengths will be limited.
